Upper Level | 2012 |Oil on Papyrus

Upper Level is based on an Egyptian map known as the Turin Papyrus Map. The map was made around 1150 BCE, and its function was to map out areas of stone for a quarrying expedition. In particular, the map showed the available of sandstone to be used for statues of Rameses IV. The map is notable for its geological and topographical accuracy, and one of the earliest maps in the world to have real geographical content.
